Microneedling Q & A

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is also known as collagen induction therapy. It promotes your body’s natural healing response and the production of collagen and elastin, which are primarily responsible for the desired results of smoother, tighter skin.

Dr. Bhoot uses the Eclipse MicroPen® on all parts of the body, including the:

  • Face
  • Legs
  • Back
  • Neck
  • Hands
  • Abdomen

It’s a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate your skin and treat:

  • Acne
  • Scars
  • Rosacea
  • Hair loss
  • Age spots
  • Stretch marks
  • Oversized pores
  • Premature skin aging
  • Fine lines and wrinkles

Microneedling can produce excellent results for hair loss by releasing blood vessel growth factors that increase your follicle size, thicken your hair, and promote hair growth.

How does microneedling work?

Dr. Bhoot uses the Eclipse MicroPen, a device with fine needles that makes tiny holes in your top layer of skin. It triggers your body's collagen- and elastin-producing response, and different pen settings are available to suit your needs.

Dr. Bhoot applies a topical gel to your skin. It keeps you comfortable during the procedure and allows the Eclipse MicroPen to glide over your skin smoothly.

The process usually only takes about 15 to 30 minutes, and you’ll leave with red skin that resembles a sunburn. The redness will subside within a day or two, and the peeling will subside within one to three days.

Depending on the areas of skin that require treatment and your goals, you might need multiple sessions. Typically, between three to six microneedling treatments deliver optimal results.

Who is a good candidate for microneedling?

Most people are suitable for microneedling. If you’re looking for impressive, skin-rejuvenating results without surgery, microneedling is an excellent option.

If you have specific skin conditions and health complications, you should avoid microneedling. Some of these issues include:

  • Broken capillaries
  • Pustular or nodular rosacea
  • Active, severely inflamed acne
  • A history of severe histamine reactions or allergies

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling has numerous benefits. The results can provide improved texture and firmness, reducing the appearance of:

  • Scars
  • Stretch marks
  • Large pores

It's rare for just one treatment to produce results. Most patients require a series of two to three treatments spaced about six to eight weeks apart.
